D&T also requires a lot of precise designs and following of instructions

Actually my mum used to say that alot about me and my brother
That I should be the guy and him the girl coz he is so much milder then I am

He was the sweet quiet baby whereas I'm well...erhmm the more active one

until u are sick and tired of it

You can mull over a design for a week, refer to other books, get INSPIRED, make plans today change plans next lesson, etc.

Whereas the cake has to rise in the next 3 minutes else you'll never finish it by end of class

We had to paint stuff lots of still life which I enjoyed
I love using water colours and colour pencils

Yes I did not think my art teacher was that great too.

But I think it is difficult to teach art to EVERYONE ... especially when grades are involved... it's too subjective a subject yet you have to put a grade on it.

i think with an inspiring art teacher with good ideas...
(a friend of mine is an art teacher who brought her class to do chalk drawings of the basket ball court. NOW that's interesting)
... really makes the lessons infinitely more interesting.

but a lot of my teachers... for some reason... did similar lessons over and over again Sad

In that sense possibly (I dunno I never took D&T) , D&T may have more leeway for creativity.

Because cooking and sewing you have to follow STRICT instructions , no veering from it at all. All bake the same cake, all sew the same dress.

Whereas I think other than learning some standard tech skills, D&T offers more room for your own personal design and expression.
